Woodside is a relatively small community found in the central Western portion of the Golden State. Woodside is currently governed by a mayor and a city council, and has a population density of less than five hundred people per square mile. Woodside covers a total area of just under twelve square miles, although none of that total includes bodies of water. Woodside is slightly higher in terms of elevation, located about four hundred feet above sea level, a bit more elevated than the rest of the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Woodside was originally inhabited by Native Americans of the Ohlone tribe, who were the sole settlers until the nineteenth century. Woodside was first explored by non-Native Americans in the year seventeen sixty nine, and settled by an American in the year eighteen forty nine. From nearly the moment of its inception, Woodside has been an extremely prestigious community, home to estates including camps, clubs, and large houses. Woodside was first officially incorporated in the year nineteen fifty six, ostensibly for the reason of preventing the region from becoming gentrified. Woodside is considered one of the most affluent communities in both the United States and the world, partially a result of the city's proximity to Silicon Valley.

Woodside offers relatively mild weather throughout the majority of the year, with the community only rarely experiencing freezing temperatures or snow. Woodside is relatively homogeneous compared to the rest of the San Francisco Bay Area, which is likely a product of the extremely high median family income - just under two hundred thousand dollars. Woodside's educational needs are met by a variety of public and private schools, including Woodside High School, Roy Cloud Elementary School, Woodside Elementary School, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School, and Adelante Spanish Immersion School.
